Parameter definitions

Length (m)

Effective string length; longer strings swing more slowly in the simplified pendulum model.

Gravity (m/s^2)

Downward acceleration that restores the bob toward vertical.

Damping (relative)

Rate at which oscillation amplitude fades over time.

Concepts

Length and period

Longer pendulums tend to swing more slowly, while damping drains energy from each cycle.

Experiments

  1. Increase length while keeping gravity and damping fixed.
The simplified string should swing with a slower period.
