Parameter definitions

Tendon stiffness (N/m)

Resistance to stretch in the tendon-like elastic line.

Tendon damping (Ns/m)

Viscous damping that reduces recoil speed and approximates hysteresis.

Loading pull (N)

Timed pull that stretches the tendon before release.

Release impulse (Ns)

Timed impulse that lets the stretched tendon recoil toward the anchor.

Concepts

Elastic energy

Stretching a tendon stores recoverable mechanical energy in the elastic line.

Release

When the load is released, stored energy can return as motion unless damping dissipates it.

Experiments

  1. Increase tendon stiffness with preload unchanged.
The tendon should stretch less but develop higher tension.
  2. Increase tendon damping before release.
Recoil should become slower and less oscillatory.
